Just Released episode#6"Give peas a chance!"

My clients love to talk about food, diet and health. I probably have this conversation on a daily basis. It's an interesting subject for me and I'm always learning little tips from my clients about these subjects. Finding interesting ways to prepare healthy food is paramount to my success. I have been pre-diabetic with high cholesterol for years. The only way to keep my numbers in check is to eat a primarily plant-based diet. I can't see taking more medicines when I can fix it by what I'm putting into my mouth. My mother was a type one diabetic. I saw how devastating it was on her body. They went in to perform a triple bi-pass and her fragile 95-pound body just couldn't handle the stress. She never made it out of the hospital. After weeks in the hospital and two subsequent strokes she passed away at age 60.

I learned so much from that time. I grew as a man and as a father. I became more compassionate and understanding. I learned that you can't make someone love you. You have no control over what someone else is going to do no matter how bad you may want to. You only have control over yourself. The way you act, the choices you make and the way you frame things. I learned about forgiveness. To release the burden of resentment. Sometimes it takes work and time to heal, but it's worth it.

Which brings us to the first law of thermo dynamics. The conservation of energy, which states that energy is conserved. IE Energy is constant in any process. It may change in form or be transferred from one system to another but the total energy remains the same. Let’s say you let a billiard ball roll down a flat board. Then as you level out the board, the ball continues to roll for a bit. Why? If gravity was the force that pulled the ball along, why did it not just stop when you leveled out the board? Where did the energy that continued to move the ball come from? Energy “conservation” states that energy remains constant in a closed system which is not subject to an external influence.

I invite you to empty your cup so I may share with you some of lessons I've learned. Lessons that have been punctuated by some of the stories that my clients have shared with me. Although some of the topics may be alien to your field of experience, teaching, business ownership, the takeaways are interchangeable. Take teaching for example. Although I am not actively teaching at the moment, the principles of effective communication, how to motivate, still enhance my relationships.

My intention is to share some of my own personal journey, interspersed with some of the conversations I've had with my clients. Some of the “conversations” are distilled from the hundreds (perhaps thousands) of discussions that I have had on these topics throughout my forty year career. I've also included a handful of conversations that were exclusive to one person. Some topics come in and out of vogue depending upon what is happening in the media and around our world. Some topics never wane in popularity, food, exercise, relationships, meditation.

“The forecast from the chair” makes reference to talking about the weather, which is a default topic of the “small talk” which can often be the foreplay to the“big talk”. An effort to make small talk shows your willingness to make a connection on a very basic level. This is something I have had to work at to cultivate.

I move forward with love and gratitude for all the beautiful people who have graced my chair with their presence. Hopefully we can share a few laughs along the way. Here goes.......

About Us

Giving back

Grateful to have been nominated by Governor David Y. Ige, and confirmed by the Senate to serve the hairstylist and great state of Hawaii.  I am honored to be able to give back to a profession that has giving me so much!

Whenever possible!

After decades of hair styling, salon ownership and platform teaching, I learned that it doesn't matter if you're a server ,a lawyer ,a sales person or a homemaker. We all have something of value to share. So lets share!
